Update

Porto, June 8th 2020.

For over 15 years Porto Marathon has worked to inspire thousands of people, of all ages and abilities, to exercise and fulfil the dream of finishing a Marathon.

Unfortunately, and due to the public health emergency caused by the pandemic COVID-19 and following the Portuguese official recommendations, Runporto in collaboration with the public health authorities, decided to postpone the EDP Porto Marathon to 2021.

Runporto, the three cities involved and the sponsors, after analysing the risks associated with the organization of the 2020 edition of EDP Porto Marathon, concluded that the necessary safety and sanitarian conditions for the holding of this major event aren’t ensured.

Organizing an event like the EDP Porto Marathon, where thousands of athletes, and family members participate, many of them coming from all around the world, and who travel to our country to participate in the race, carries an enormous risk of the Covid-19 virus spreading.

It is with the families, children, and athletes in our mind, but also all the staff members and volunteers who would be gathered in the organization of the EDP Porto Marathon, that we took this difficult decision.

Your safety is our priority.

Marathoners usually need several months of preparation before being able to compete in a race as demanding as a Marathon, and for this reason Runporto makes this announcement at this time. It is a matter of respect and responsibility towards athletes and all entities involved in the organization of the event.

EDP Porto Marathon brought together thousands of participants from 75 countries in 2019, was scheduled for November 8, 2020 and will be postponed until November 7 of next year.

For participants already registered in the EDP Porto Marathon, Runporto presents three alternatives: transfer the registration to the 2021 edition; transfer the registration to the 2022 edition or, change the registration athlete holder. If the participant does not contact the organization, Runporto assumes that his registration will be automatically transferred to the 2021 edition.

The change of the registration athlete holder, or edition change for 2022, must be communicated through the email geral@runporto.com until 30th June 2021.
We hope to be able to welcome you soon at the EDP Porto Marathon.

Until then, keep running!
